The Plant Space

The Plant Space offers horticultural therapy services in Nova Scotia’s beautiful Annapolis Valley. Our mother/daughter team brings a background of botanical research, psychology, and tai-chi instruction to our evidence-based therapeutic horticultural practice.

We are happy to offer community therapeutic mindful planting workshops in collaboration with our local venue partners. We specialize in delivering horticultural-based therapies for our seniors, particularly those living with dementia. The Plant Space is currently developing programs designed for our over-anxious youth in higher education along with inter-generational programming.

Bio:

The Plant Space was founded by Sherri Nettleton & Kim Janssen, a mother/daughter team, in 2023.

Kim discovered horticultural therapy as a personal relief from corporate burnout. As a former botanist, she has since created The Plant Space to bring those benefits, and a love of plants, to others. Today, she is President of The Friends of the Acadian Forest, the volunteer organization associated with The Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens at Acadia University.

Trained in psychology, Sherri has always looked for ways to help others and share her love of things that grow. Professionally, she deepened her respect for the land we steward as she oversaw one of Canada’s largest investments into carbon neutrality with The Council of Sustainable Industries. She founded the Canadian Tai-Chi Academy in 2006 and brings over three decades of experience with community health initiatives to our programming.
