Several current education sites related to therapeutic horticulture and horticultural therapy

General information

The Canadian Horticultural Therapy Association (CHTA) is pleased to assist with researching available therapeutic horticulture (TH) and horticultural therapy (HT) education options by listing several current education sites. Only agencies and instructors who are members in good standing of the CHTA are eligible for a listing on the CHTA Education Links page.

These listings do not constitute an endorsement by the CHTA for these programs. It is important to obtain detailed information about course curricula and instructor qualifications when you research study options.

If you are considering enrolling in a continuing education program in HT or TH, please note that such courses will only be considered for recognition toward voluntary professional registration where the program originates in Canada and is taught by a registered horticultural therapist who is a member in good standing of the CHTA.

It is important that any educational opportunity in HT or TH be inclusive of components that the CHTA considers a necessary part of training to become a competent therapeutic horticulture professional.

The CHTA provides a comprehensive list of key competencies in a policy document which can be reviewed and downloaded here: CHTA - HT Core Skills and Knowledge - 2014.

The much anticipated French language version of this document is now available and can be downloaded here: CHTA - Connaissances et compétences fondamentales de l'hortithérapie - 2014.

Students seeking education programs in TH and HT should be aware that some education service providers post inaccurate and out-of-date information on their websites. Please take the time to cross reference any statements made by an education service provider with respect with the document above.

Members of the CHTA are also advised to obtain a copy of the CHTA Guidelines for Voluntary Professional Registration from the CHTA's administrative assistant at admin@chta.ca.

Contact the Education Coordinator at education@chta.ca to find out about the guidelines for listing education programs on the HT Education Links page and for requesting listing updates.
